In the 1940s the International Ladies Garment Workers Union provided classes after work, studios near garment shops, art materials, instruction, and funds to cover the cost of framing for judged exhibitions. “Magic Wedding” is an early-1940s oil painting by Leon Berch, a member of ILGWU Local 22. Its mystical scene seems to depict a wedding, held in the evening outside a synagogue in a small town.
